Apple has decided to conclude its series “The Afterparty” on Apple TV+ after two seasons. This decision follows the conclusion of the second season of the genre-blending comedic murder mystery series, which wrapped up over a month ago.
Sony Pictures Television, the production company behind the show, is now exploring options to find a new home for “The Afterparty.” The series follows a self-contained story with each season.
Created by Chris Miller, who also serves as an executive producer alongside his producing partner Phil Lord, “The Afterparty” featured a different genre in each episode, depending on the character’s perspective in focus. The second season brought back Zoë Chao, Sam Richardson, and Tiffany Haddish from the first season and was set at a wedding that took a sinister turn when the groom was found dead. Season two also featured a cast that included John Cho, Paul Walter Hauser, Ken Jeong, Anna Konkle, Poppy Liu, Elizabeth Perkins, Jack Whitehall, Zach Woods, and Vivian Wu.
As with most streaming series, the viewing data for “The Afterparty” is not publicly available. The show did not make it into the top 10 original streaming series in Nielsen’s rankings during its run.
Anthony King and Miller served as co-showrunners for the second season, while Lord and Miller, via their Lord Miller banner, also served as executive producers. The show’s producers included Michael Cedar, Aubrey Lee (senior vp television at Lord Miller), and Bridger Winegar.
