Mayte Garcia’s “The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince” to be made into a movie

Mayte Garcia’s “The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince” to be made into a movie

The best-selling memoir “The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince” is set to be adapted for the silver screen by Crazy Legs Features. The production company has recently secured the rights to transform the New York Times bestseller, authored by the late musician’s first wife, Mayte Garcia, into a feature-length biographical film.

Published in early 2017, the book offers a unique glimpse into the iconic rock star’s life, as seen through the lens of his relationship with Mayte Garcia. Their story began when she met Prince in 1990 at the age of 16, while he was 32. After a four-year courtship, during which Prince became Mayte’s legal guardian when she was just 17, they tied the knot in 1996. Tragically, their son, born on October 16, 1996, passed away six days later due to Pfeiffer syndrome type 2. Understandably, this tragedy took a toll on their marriage, which eventually ended in 2000, as Mayte revealed in an interview with People Magazine.

The memoir takes its name from the song “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World,” which Prince composed for Mayte in 1994. It delves into their backstage encounter at a concert, the evolution of their artistic collaboration, and their romantic journey. In doing so, it offers an exceptionally intimate and personal perspective on the notoriously private artist who left an indelible mark on pop culture.

Tom Cappello, CEO of Crazy Legs Productions, remarked, “Prince is one of our generation’s most electrifying, charismatic, and enigmatic personalities. We are honored that Mayte has chosen us to bring her moving, candid memoir to life and to offer a rare glimpse of an artist who transformed the lives of millions of fans worldwide. We are eager to begin the development of this project.”

Cappello, alongside Scott Thigpen and Marie Halliday, serves as a producer for Crazy Legs, while Gilbert Davison, who was a close friend of Prince and later served as his security director and president of Paisley Park, takes on the role of Associate Producer. Davison has since become an artist business manager, representing Garcia and a portfolio of musicians and various business clients. Crazy Legs is represented by CAA.

Mayte Garcia shared her thoughts on the collaboration, stating, “Crazy Legs is the perfect partner to bring this deeply personal reflection of my life with Prince to the screen. Their diverse body of work demonstrates an artistry and skill in telling the stories of the most complex and beautiful human beings. This film will provide an intimate glimpse into the man I loved, our life together, and his enduring impact.”
